100 YEARS OF FLIGHT IN SWEDEN
There will be many highpoints at the Göteborg Aero Show 2010, which is focusing on the centenary of Swedish aviation. It was in 1910 that the “flying baron” Carl Cederström became the first Swedish pilot to fly in Sweden. A similar aircraft, a Bleriot XI, built under licence a few years later in Sweden, will be a star of the flying display this year. Mikael Carlson is one of the few pilots in the world to fly such ancient aircraft.
ITALIAN AVIATION STARS
Several European countries will be sending their best representatives to honour this important Swedish aviation occasion. The renowned Italian Air Force display team, the Frecce Tricolori, will be coming to Gothenburg for the first time. The Frecce Tricolori are regarded as one of the foremost display teams in the world, providing perhaps the most spectacular show. The team consists of ten aircraft which is more than any other group. This year the team is celebrating its own 50th anniversary. As they are very selective over their foreign visits, it is a particular honour that they will visit Gothenburg just this year.
SWEDISH MILITARY AVIATION
Swedish aviation is closely associated with a range of military aircraft produced by Saab. With help from the Swedish Armed Forces and the Swedish Air Force Historic Flight, the aim is to show off the Saab jet era, from the Flying Barrel, through the Lansen, Draken, SK 60 and up to the JAS 39 Gripen. The Swedish Armed Forces heavy transport aircraft, the TP 84 Hercules will also participate as well as helicopters, etc.
MORE INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPATION
Switzerland and Denmark will also be present with their national display groups. The Swiss PC-7 Team will be flying in formation with their 9 trainer aircraft; the PC-7 being manufactured by their country’s own aviation industry, Pilatus. The Danish group has the poetic name of “Baby Blue” and flies four Swedish-made Saab MFI-17 Supporters. NEW! Denmark will also bring their F-16 fighter for an impressive show.
...AND MUCH MORE
There will of course be much more to see at the Göteborg Aero Show. How about helicopters, aerobatics, sailplanes and such historic classics as the DC-3, Harvards and Tiger Moths. In short, a wonderful mix for most tastes.
